The Barossa Village Oral History Project - Alan Hall

Alan Hall 20/12/1932 - Alan devoted his life to helping others, both teaching and sports played a large role in his life within the community. 17 years Principal Nuriootpa PS. Citizen of the year 2004. Meals on Wheels 25 years.

"I supported Sturt, I played for Glenelg in the morning and would go barrack for Sturt in the afternoon!"

The Barossa Village Oral History Project - Bevan Roennfeldt

Bevan Roennfeldt 16/9/1940 - Bevan grew up on the family farm at Greenock in the Barossa Valley. Bevan shares early childhood memories of life on the land, Gnadenfrei Church and the Marananga Brass band. 

"The farm became modernised in the early 1950's,power was connected and a hot water system and pump were installed and power in the sheds meant lights were available".

Elizabeth Mueller 14/8/1935 - A Seppeltsfield girl reflecting on early memories as a Marananga Primary School student during WWII. Ancestors originally from Prussia. 

"I remember my first kiss, I know exactly where it was, under the pine tree at Marananga school".

The Barossa Village Oral History Project - Glenda Schultz

Glenda Schultz 12/12/1935 - Country living growing up in Keyneton with 12 siblings. Glenda remembers the first baby born in the Tanunda Hospital where she worked as 1 of 5 of the first trainee nurses.

"It was a 14 bed hospital at that time, Matron Tscharke was a wonderful Matron".

The Barossa Village Oral History Project - Leon Wilksch

Leon Wilksch DOB 3/8/1935 - Born in Angaston Leon reflects on life growing up on the outskirts of Moculta. A self employed Barossa builder, Leon hand made 21000 bricks to build his first home. Over 35 years service with Rotary. 

"I had 4 sisters and 2 brothers, this was before TV, they had to do something to keep themselves occupied!".

The Barossa Village Oral History Project - Robert King

Robert King - DOB 6/4/1928 - Robert shares his stories of the early days (1946) of the Nuriootpa Swimming Pool and his years working at the Penrice Quarry. Also featured Nuriootpa FC, many community activities and early Vintage Festivals.

Roma Bray DOB 21/7/1933 - Growing up at Vine Vale.

Early memories include working at the Adelaide Markets pre 1940 with her father. Early Vintage Festivals and the first time she met her husband Kevin Bray.

"1940 I started school, I wanted to be a school teacher, Dad always said you need to teach the veggies to grow!".
